Awards boost for Warrington Town ahead of promotion push
WARRINGTON Town enjoyed a successful night at the Evo-Stik League awards night at both first team and academy level.
Hot prospect Dylan Vassallo was named Evo-Stik Premier League Young Player of the Year, while Sean Williams and Jack Higgins were named in Team of the Year.
Midfielder Aron McGrath was named NPL Football Academy Player of the Year, also appearing in the NPLFA Team of the Year alongside team mates Joe Ruane and Bobbie McDonnell.
Club Chairman Toby Macormac and manager Paul Carden were among the guests at the league’s annual awards dinner, which took place in Barnsley.
Vassallo spent last summer being courted by professional clubs and spent some time on trial with Football League outfits, before committing the season to the Yellows, though he has sat out through injury recently.
Higgins, a summer signing from York, has stepped up in the absence of talismanic captain James McCarten, who has been out injured since the draw with champions elect Altrincham in January, while central midfielder Williams has been a mainstay of the team since his arrival 18 months ago.
The season is far from over for the Yellows, who consolidated second place in the table with a 2-0 win at Farsley on Saturday, their first win in seven outings.
Finishing second is seen as imperative for the play-offs, as it guarantees a home tie in both the semi-final and final, should the Yellows get there.
A key game in securing that berth takes place on Tuesday evening, when Shaw Lane are the visitors to Cantilever Park, with Carden and his team no doubt eager to gain revenge for the 5-0 mauling they received in the reverse fixture.
