Three players sign for 1st team

Youth team players sign first team forms
After a very good team start, and some excellent individual performances, the U18 team were watched by the first team manager Paul Moore in their 3 – 1 win at Crosfields last Sunday. Paul was impressed by the team performance, and took a particular like to three members of the team who showed a lot of individual technical ability and determination during this game. This has since resulted in the three lads signing Unibond forms for the first team – Lewis O’Neill, Scott O’Neill and Lee Roberts.
This represents a great opportunity for these lads but more importantly shows that the prospects within the club for development through to the first team level, are very real, for all its players.
If and when the lads get any opportunity to play, we wish them well, but this should also serve as a massive boost to all the youth team players before the up and coming FA Youth Cup game against Nantwich Town next week
======================================================
Following the departure of last year’s youth team manager, I was interested in the challenge and after a successful application, began with the help of my assistant Barry Dawson, getting new players for this season, this process only started in June.
After some very healthy interest from lads from all over the North West area, we now have a settled squad of 18 players. This squad consists of predominantly local Warrington lads, with 2 or three players coming from out of the area.
Many of the lads have at some time in their career enjoyed some successful spells at local Academies or School of Excellence clubs, and are all currently enjoying the challenge ahead of them this season.
After several pre-season friendlies, which included a very interesting and eye opening visit inside Hindley Prison for a game against the inmates which ended in a 3 – 3 draw against a team consisting of some much older players, all the players were ready. A few of the youth team players have also played regular football this season for the Warrington Town Reserve side. And are looking to break into this team and level on a full time basis
With only a small number of teams in the South Lancs League this season, the start of the league was delayed until August 7th. The season started at Cantilever Park, with a testing opening game against last year’s U17 joint winners Southport Youth. This game was fairly even until the last 10 minutes of the game when an own goal was scored from a long throw in, resulting in a 1 – 0 and very disappointing defeat, against a well established and very organized side
In our second and latest game Warrington entertained Billinge FC, which saw a much improved performance, running out very worthy winners 5 – 0.
All the players, management and committee at Warrington Town FC would like to extent a warm welcome to Prescot Cables FC, and look forward to the FA Youth Cup Tie on Sunday
