Report: Warrington Town Women 2-2 Workington Town (6-7 pens)

The Yellows welcomed down Workington Town from Cumbria for the second time this year, after previously playing them in January.

Town looked to redeem themselves after falling to Accrington Stanley in their debut at the Cal.Delivery Stadium, but it was Workington who progressed through to the next round, and Warrington bowed out of another cup for the second time in two weeks.

Workington opened the scoring through Keeley Chatters’ half-volley in the 12th minute. Warrington quickly responded with a goal of their own in the 17th minute as top scorer Lily Parsons fired past Workington goalie Laura Miller, assisted by Hannah Rhodes.

The Yellows took the lead in the 78th minute through Chloe Green who scored with the help of Lily Parsons, but the visitors grabbed an equaliser on the brink of full-time thanks to Keeley Chatters’ heroics.

The Yellows had two close chances to get a last-minute winner but Miller and the Workington defence kept the visitors in the game with two brilliant saves.

Even in penalties, it went right down to the wire as sudden death was required to decide who progressed through to the next round of the Alliance Design & Print Cup; it was Chloe Henderson’s penalty that sent the Cumbrians home happy.

The Yellows are back in league action next week and will look to climb the table as they welcome Mossley Hill to Warrington.
