Beesley hails Buckley-Ricketts as hat-trick fires Yellows to big win at Buxton

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley paid tribute to Isaac Buckley-Ricketts after his hat-trick steered the Yellows to their biggest-ever win in the National League North on Tuesday night.

A second half hat-trick from Buckley-Ricketts – who took his tally for his season into double figures at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium – added to Matty McDonald’s third-minute opener, with Tom Hannigan and Matty Grivosti also finding themselves on the scoresheet as Town ran riot on their travels.

Last night’s result also saw the Yellows hit a team for six for the first time since a 6-1 win over Prescot Cables on April 2016, and the manager was quick to pay tribute to the man who took home the match ball.

“I’m made up for Isaac. He took his goals really well,” Beesley said post match.

“We changed his role a little bit today, but it’s something we had in mind a lot with him this season. He’s got good movement and his pace causes teams problems.

“I don’t think you expect to go anywhere and win 6-0. The way we approached the game and the mindset of the first half was brilliant.

“Against the wind, we got our noses in front with a good bit of play. In the second half, they came into a little bit of possession, but we were always a threat on the counter-attack and could’ve had a couple more – their keeper made some good saves.”

Town also picked up their second clean sheet of the calendar year – helped in large part by a crucial block from Tom Hannigan in second half stoppage time.

Beesley says that his intervention epitomised everything good about how he wants his players to defend their own box.

He added: “Tom has been excellent for us ever since he walked through the door two years ago.

“His committment for us is there for all to see. [Centre-back] is probably the strongest position we’ve got, with him, Clarkey [Peter Clarke], Dre [Andre Wisdom] and Evan Gumbs coming back.

“It’s a difficult selection headache for me, but the lads that are playing at the moment are giving everything for us and I can’t fault any one of them tonight.”
