Beesley provides recruitment update as pre-season begins

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley has urged patience on the recruitment front after his squad recently recently returned to pre-season training.

The club have already welcomed back forward Matty Grivosti, with the 20-year-old confirmed as the Yellows’ first summer signing following his release from Bolton Wanderers.

Grivosti will bolster the forward line ahead of the 2023/24 National League North season, and it is hoped that further new additions will be announced before Beesley and his squad visit Prescot Cables for the first of an eight-game pre-season schedule on Tuesday 4 July.

Discussing their search for new signings, Beesley said: “We’ve been looking since the end of last season, but it’s not as simple as that.

“Whoever we bring in has to be the right kind of person first and foremost – we’ve built something here that we don’t want someone to come in and wreck.

“We’ve got a few things bubbling under, but we’re in a position where we don’t have to go out and recruit a lot of players.

“We’ll look to bring in maybe one or two, and hopefully there will be something on the cards over the next few days.”

As preparations for the upcoming campaign intensify, the Yellows squad will take part in a number of training sessions before their opening friendly next week.

And with the Northern Premier League play-off final only taking place on May 1 – less than two months ago – Beesley is hopeful that many of his players will be able to hit the ground running.

“We’ve done a few top-ups throughout the summer but we’ve kept in touch with the lads and they’re raring to go,” he added.

“We’ve not had that long off, but fitness wise, hopefully they will be where they were last season and we can crack straight on.

“The excitement is there for everybody, and we’re keen to get back together and get going again.”
