Beesley taking positives from Brackley Town draw

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley says his side were “excellent” at times during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with promotion-chasing Brackley Town at Cantilever Park.

In a see-saw National League North encounter, the Yellows fell behind to a stunning Zak Lilly half-volley before goals from Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and Matty McDonald turned the game on its head before half-time.

A fine finish from Connor Hall eight minutes after the break levelled the game, and neither side could find a winner in the time that remained, in front of another healthy four-figure home crowd.

Speaking post-match, Beesley said: “We were more like ourselves today. We spoke on Tuesday about getting back to our normal performance levels and the results would look after themselves. The only tinge of disappointment is that we didn’t win.

“In my opinion, we had the best chances and deserved to win, but they’re an excellent team. They pushed us back without creating chances, but two bits of quality got them their goals.

“We need to be a bit more ruthless with our decision-making and our final pass or shot, but other than that, I can’t fault them today.

“As we’ve spoken about, three-game weeks are tough at this level. We didn’t perform on Tuesday, but we dusted ourselves down and put a good performance in today.

“We caused them problems, and on another day, we’re two or three ahead by half-time.

“That’s probably the difference for me – we had a great chance before half-time and Matty McDonald hit the bar. If one of those goes in, it’s a lead we can hold onto.”

The Yellows’ next two fixtures both come at Cantilever Park, with Bishop’s Stortford making the trip on Saturday before Southport visit the following Tuesday.
