Carden ready for unknown quantity in Morpeth Town

Warrington Town boss Paul Carden says his side will be ready for the challenge of newly-promoted Morpeth Town when the season kicks off on Saturday.

The NPL East Division champions are the first visitors to Cantilever Park as the new BetVictor Northern Premier season begins for what is a first ever meeting between the two sides.

Though they have retained a large portion of their title-winning squad, much like Carden, they did lose league player of the year David Carson to Inverness.

His departure has been tempered somewhat by the eye-catching signing of former Blyth Spartans midfielder Sean Reid, while big Ben Harmison has arrived from South Shields.

Carden said: “We will get as much information as we can about them, a mate of mine manages Dunston, and we will go into the game full of confidence.

“We’re never under the impression that just because they’ve come up they’re going to be a push over, because you only have to look at the teams that came up last season – South Shields, Basford and even Bamber Bridge – those sides came up and gave everyone a game and two of them were up for promotion for a while.

“There’s never an easy game so we just have to make sure we’re right, we’re all sharp, all fit and confident.”

New signing Louis Barnes is suspended, having been sent off against the Yellows while playing for Nantwich Town in the play-offs at the end of last season.

That could mean a debut for recent signing Zac Corbett, this week confirmed as part of Carden’s squad having turned out on several occasions during pre-season.

Bohan Dixon is still working his way back to full fitness following an operation in the summer, while Jack Dunn will be hoping to shake off a calf niggle in time.

Tickets for the game against Morpeth Town are available to buy online here. Season Tickets for the 2019/20 season are still available to purchase.
