Dave Raven: We got what we deserved

Warrington Town’s 2-1 victory over Cheshire rivals Nantwich Town will be a major boost of confidence in the squad, says assistant manager Dave Raven.

Following Saturday’s defeat to Ashton United at Hurst Cross, the Yellows bounced back in style as a brace for Isaac Buckley-Ricketts saw them past the Dabbers at Cantilever Park.

Victory saw them climb to fifth in the Northern Premier League table, two points off top spot with six matches played.

“I thought we controlled large parts of it,” Raven said post-match. “Coming in at 1-1 at half-time, we were disappointed, especially with the goal we conceded.

“And then we had to lift the lads. They went back out, and we fully deserved the three points and got what we deserved.

“I’m really pleased for the lads, because it’ll be good for their confidence, in terms of what we’re doing and how we’re approaching the game. They got their rewards today.”

The winner saw Buckley-Ricketts connect with Sean Williams’ pinpoint cross to head beyond visiting goalkeeper Louis Grey with six minutes to play.

Raven admits he was relieved to see Town’s second goal hit the back of the net after they had dominated large parts of the contest.

“You just need something to fall for you sometimes,” he said. “The goal itself was a great goal, a great ball in. We were knocking, knocking, knocking, and we finally got the three points.

“Willo’s delivery today has been outstanding. To be perfectly honest, his last few performances have been outstanding.

“He’s such a big player for us, and today he massively delivered on all fronts. I’m pleased for him again to get another assist.”

The only blow for the Yellows came in the first half as last season’s top scorer Jordan Buckley left the field through injury.

Discussing the injury, he added: “I think he’s rolled it, these things just [happen]. We’ll see how it settles over the next 48 hours.

“It’s a big shame for Jordan. He’s a big player for us, and we need him fit and firing, there’s no doubt about that.”
