Duffy pens Yellows deal

Warrington Town have signed attacking midfielder Luke Duffy ahead of the friendly against Southport.

Duffy, 21, was part of the Salford City development squad last season and has previously had trials with Crystal Palace and Brentford.

He starred against the Yellows for Lower Breck in the recent pre-season game and manager Paul Carden was quick to swoop in and secure a deal.

Carden said: “I’d seen him before but obviously last week was the first time I had seen him at a level against players who you want to see him perform against to judge him really.

“He’s not the biggest of lads but more than makes up with his desire, you don’t box to the level he has without being a tough kid.

“Last week was stuff I’d seen on a Sunday but at times, we couldn’t get the ball off him.

“You could probably put three against him in a phone box and you wouldn’t get the ball off him

“He’s a great kid, he’s got desire, and he will excite and make things happen. I spoke to Warren Joyce at Salford and he loved him.

“I know he can score goals, he can make goals, he can go past people like they’re not there and I just want to get him involved.

“We’re made up he’s signed, I think our fans will be really excited by him and hopefully he can do what the last lad we had from that area did.”

“I want to thank Lower Breck, he’s had a spell there and for the Oyster, in what is a hot bed of football and there’s a bit of a pathway now and hopefully he’s not the last.

Duffy penned his contract ahead of making his first appearance in a Yellows shirt against Southport at Cantilever Park.

The Liverpudlian was a promising boxer in his youth and follows the same trail as Ben Garrity, who also played for Lower Breck and the Oyster.

He said: “I done well (last week) and got the call. Me and Ben (Garrity) have had the same type of pathway, it would be good to get a move on to the Football League.

“I’m quite direct, I like to get at players and create chances, hopefully score goals and get plenty of assists. I’ll take every game as it comes.

“Warrington play football. They knock the ball about, they’re organised and tough to break down and look forward to being part of it.”

You can watch Luke and the rest of the Yellows in action at the remaining home pre-season friendlies, and when the season starts proper on September 19. Season Tickets are available online now.
