Hough impresses on Yellows debut

Teenage midfielder Ben Hough signed for Warrington Town last week and made his debut in the 2-0 win over FC United.

Hough, 18, was picked up by Oldham Athletic while playing for Runcorn Linnets Juniors at the age of 10 and made his professional debut in the EFL Trophy last season.

He linked up with the Yellows for pre-season and agreed a deal on the eve of the opening match of the Northern Premier League season, where he played 90 minutes in an impressive debut showing.

Manager Paul Carden said: “He came in for pre-season, we knew a little bit about him from last season. We spoke to Ben Garrity, who was at Oldham on loan from Blackpool, and he spoke really well of him.

“He brought a lot of energy, he’s a good footballer, understands the game, takes instructions on, clever, wins the ball back and makes good use of it as well. He will be a really important player for us this season, you can give him a job to do, he understands it and sticks to it but doesn’t deter him from playing his own game.”

Hough was chucked in at the deep end by Carden through necessity, playing alongside Mitch Duggan in the middle of midfield.

He will be sponsored for the 2020/21 season by Tavern Sports Bar.
