Josh Amis ready for Hyde United test

Warrington Town must be at their very best if they want to progress in the FA Cup this weekend, says captain Josh Amis.

The Yellows beat Morpeth Town 2-1 in a first qualifying round replay earlier this month to set up a trip to Hyde United this weekend.

The Tigers knocked out Warrington Rylands 4-0 to reach this stage of the competition, and they have also started the league season strongly with four wins and two draws from their opening eight matches.

Amis knows it will be a difficult trip to Ewen Fields, but he insists his side are more than capable of rising to the challenge.

“Hyde have had a strong start, but I think we need to concentrate on ourselves,” he said. “If we come with a good intensity and the lads are on it, we can go far.

“It’s a knockout competition and anyone can beat anyone on the day, but with the group of lads we have, I think we can do well in it.”

Amis, who was appointed club captain as part of a newly-formed leadership group ahead of the 2022/23 season, has been used as a substitute in recent matches.

As he nears a return to full fitness, he is hopeful of kicking on and opening his goalscoring account for the season.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into the starting XI,” he said. “It’s just about working my way back to full fitness so I’m right.

“I see myself adding to the goals, and I think that with the chances we are creating, the goals are bound to come from all over the pitch.

“We just need to be more clinical in the final third, which we have touched on, but on another day I see a few of these chances going in.”
