Mark Beesley: Peterborough performance felt ‘more like us’

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley was full of praise after his side’s 3-1 away win against Peterborough Sports on Tuesday.

Connor Woods’ 12th goal of the season, and his fourth in as many games, put the away side one-up at halftime.

A first goal for Dubem Eze and a Matty McDonald sealer after Micheal Gash pulled one back for the hosts ensured the points returned to Cantilever Park.

It was a much-needed three points after consecutive defeats at home, as the Yellows look to build momentum towards the end of the season.

“I felt that was more like us tonight,” Beesley said.

“We had a bit of everything: quality, grit, determination and we saw through periods of pressure.”

He added that he felt his Town side were “a threat on the counter-attack all game” and the team scored some “really good goals.”

Dubem Eze made his first Warrington start in only his second game for the club since arriving on loan from Norwich.

With current injuries amongst the squad perhaps accelerating the 19-year-old’s rise into the starting eleven, he marked his first start with a goal, which impressed Beesley.

“I told him to just be positive in the final third and get your shots off, and from where we were it looked a great finish.

“He’s a good footballer that kid. He’s a credit to himself with how quickly he’s settled in and hopefully, there’s more to come.”

Tuesday night’s result gives Warrington the 3rd best away record in the National League North. 31 points in 20 games leaves only table toppers Tamwoth and Curzon Ashton with better away form this season.

While Beesley admits there’s been some frustration towards their current home form after the last three games at Cantilever Park, he commends his side away from home.

“Away from home suits us sometimes as we can counterattack with pace and use the quality we’ve got in midfield.”

The Yellows will look to improve on their already great away form on Good Friday, with a short turnaround before a trip to Scarborough Athletic.
