Mark Beesley: We’ve got great character

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley has commended his side for coming away with a good point after fighting back twice to draw 2-2 away at Hyde United.

The hosts took the lead 20 minutes into the game through Jack Redshaw, before Luke Duffy fired past former Yellows goalkeeper Dan Atherton to tie the score before half-time.

Harry Roscoe restored Hyde United’s lead early on into the second half, but Matty McDonald would ensure the visitors left the Project Solar Stadium with a share of the spoils after converting Josh Amis’ attempt at goal.

“I’ve said after many games recently that we’ve dominated and have created chance after chance. But today was always going to be different,” Beesley said after the match. “We’ve got to respect that [Hyde United] they are a good team, they’re really good at home and they know how to play on this surface.

“To come back twice from 1-0 down and 2-1 down shows the good character and fight that we’ve got amongst our group.

“It’s great to come away with a point because we haven’t been very successful here in the last couple of occasions, so a point away from home keeps our mini run going and sets us up following a good win on Saturday.”

Despite the busy schedule and pre-match conditions, Beesley was encouraged to see his side pushing for a winner, particularly after making a triple substitution following McDonald’s goal.

“We’ve got fresh legs on the bench: Stefan [Mols], Jay [Harris] who was rested tonight, and Jordan [Buckley] who is chomping at the bit to get on the pitch.

“They made a good impact on the game. A little bit more quality at the end with the final pass or final shot, we might have nicked it, but I think overall a draw was a fair result.

“We’ve spoke about this difficult period of back-to-back Saturday and Tuesday fixtures in difficult conditions, saying that everybody will be needed.

“We felt that we needed three fresh legs today and I think that it was the right thing to do.”
