Match report | Warrington Town 0-0 AFC Fylde

WARRINGTON Town rounded off their pre-season programme with a goalless draw at home to National League North side AFC Fylde.

A crowd of 403 saw Paul Carden’s side go through their final preparations ahead of the start of the Northern Premier League season away at Basford United next week.

Chances were at a premium, while both trialist goalkeepers fielded by the Yellows staked their claim for a permanent place in Carden’s squad, which was missing Mitch Duggan and Callum Grogan.

The only worry was a second half injury picked up by defender Evan Gumbs, who played alongside Matt Regan at centre-half with skipper Mark Roberts on the bench.

The visitors had the first opening, Ben Tollitt forcing a good save out of Trialist A in the 17th minute before Luke Burgess shot over from the centre of the box.

The Yellows’ best moment in the first half came when Jack Dunn turned wonderfully out of a challenge in midfield and drove at a defender, having his first shot blocked and then the ‘keeper got down at his feet off the rebound.

The second half was largely a stalemate, and it was the 70th minute before the substitute keepers were called in to serious action – Trialist C getting down well to save for the Yellows, while at the other end, Jordan Buckley’s low shot was kicked away by Fylde’s own trialist.

Trialist C made two further smart stops in what was his first outing for the Yellows this pre-season, with as yet no goalkeeper signed to Carden’s squad for the new campaign.

Warrington Town: Trialist A (Trialist C), Carney, Warren, Munro (Sharp), Gumbs (Roberts), Regan, Mackreth, Rose (Amado), Amis (Trialist B), Dixon (Buckley), Dunn (Duffy).
