Midfield duo named in NPL Team of the Season

Warrington Town’s Bohan Dixon and Sean Williams have been included in the Northern Premier League’s Premier Division Team of the Season.

The pair made 46 appearances apiece last season as the club secured promotion to the National League North via the play-offs.

Dixon started 43 times for the Yellows during the 2022/23 campaign – a tally bettered only by goalkeeper Tony Thompson and centre-back pairing Evan Gumbs and Tom Hannigan.

Dixon’s stand-out displays also saw him nominated for the Northern Premier League’s Player of the Season award, which was won by then-Gainsborough Trinity forward Clayton Donaldson.

“Bohan has been a true leader for us this season, with his performances on the pitch and off the pitch and the way he’s represented himself and the club throughout the year,” manager Mark Beesley said.

“He’s been outstanding and came up with some vital goals in big matches. He hardly misses a game, trains really well and is a credit to the club.

“He deserves to be nominated for Player of the Season and included in the Team of the Season because I’m sure everyone else would want him in their team.”

Meanwhile, Williams’ inclusion in the Team of the Season comes after a campaign where he passed 150 appearances in Yellows colours.

He made his debut in a 2-0 victory at home to Rushall Olympic in November 2016 and went on to make 72 appearances between 2016-18 during his first stint at the club.

Williams then joined Altrincham, with whom he made over 100 appearances across two spells during his career, before completing a permanent return to Cantilever Park in October 2021 after a successful one-month loan move.

Both Williams and Dixon were part of the leadership group set up by the club to support captain Josh Amis ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

On Williams’ contribution, Beesley said: “Sean is an outstanding leader on and off the pitch. He gives us that quality and calmness in possession.

“He’s a really big player and a person within the dressing room. He’s made us tick all season and we’re thrilled that he’s in the Team of the Year.”
