New Warrington Town youth teams set-up for 2023/24 season

Warrington Town will be operating Under 18s and Under 21s team in their respective North West leagues in the 2023/24 season.

Following a soft launch of the Under 18s in the Junior Premier League last season, Mark Bellers has been appointed as the club’s Head of Youth.

The Under 18s will play in the North West Youth Alliance League, and the Under 21s will play in the North West Development League.

Games will be held on Sunday afternoons, with each team usually at home in alternate weeks, and details such as the fixtures and results, squad profiles and progress will be available via the club’s official channels.

Chairman Toby Macormac said: “It has taken a long time to identify the right opportunity to drive forward what happens underneath our first time.

“I have made no secret of the challenges that running additional teams under the first team brings, particularly when it comes to available pitches to train and play.

“But we are excited to now have Under 18s and Under 21s sides set up, playing at a good facility, and know that the club’s fans will welcome this development.

“It also provides a pathway for local players to continue to play in the town after perhaps playing junior football locally, or even when they might come to the end of scholarships at a higher level and want somewhere to play and impress.

“The rules of the Under 21s league also provide us the ability to possibly utilise it for fringe first team players to retain match fitness.”

Head of Youth Mark Bellers said: “This is a fantastic opportunity. Having coached for 12 years in Warrington, I know how much talent there is in the town and this gives them the right platform to play and progress.

“I’m excited to be part of such a great club, with a supportive chairman, and we’re looking forward to the new season already.”

Trials for the youth section are being held by invite only on June 25th, July 2nd and July 16th in Birchwood.
