Preview: Ashton United v Warrington Town

Warrington Town travel to Hurst Cross in the BetVictor Northern Premier League.

Here’s the latest preview…

FORM GUIDE

Warrington Town most recently played in the Integro Sports Cup, with eight teenagers featuring for the Yellows away to Kidsgrove Athletic on Monday night.

Jewad Jerbin and Iwan Murray both scored for Warrington to guide the side to a 2-0 lead, but the hosts fought back for 2-2 and eventually took the win 4-2 on penalties. However, it no doubt provided good experience for the youngsters within the squad.

Paul Carden’s side have won two in the last three league fixtures, and sit fourth in the table and just four points behind South Shields at the top of the table.

Ashton United head into the fixture 17th in the BetVictor Premier Division table, and recently suffered a 1-0 defeat to Matlock Town in the FA Trophy second qualifying round.

Their last league fixture resulted in a 2-1 victory over Buxton, with a brace from Josh Wilson, both from the penalty spot.

HEAD TO HEAD

The two sides recently met in the FA Trophy at Cantilever Park.

Sam Sheridan’s strike in to the top corner barely a minute after coming on as a second half substitute knocked the Yellows out of the cup, with 327 in attendance.

Ashton, along with FC United of Manchester, were relegated to the Northern Premier League Premier Division from the National League North at the end of the 2018-19 season.

The match referee will assess the Hurst Cross playing surface at 11am tomorrow.
