Preview: Banbury United vs Warrington Town

Warrington Town return to action on Saturday with a trip to Banbury United in the National League North.

The Yellows come into the game full of confidence, and will look to build on their stoppage time equaliser in Tuesday night’s thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Spennymoor Town.

With Banbury two points below the Yellows in the league table, Mark Beesley’s side will seek a return to winning ways on their travels.

Below, we’ve compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

The Yellows remain without captain Josh Amis, who is expected to return to first team training next week.

Jordan Buckley is likely to be absent for another two weeks, while Jay Harris (groin) remains a longer-term absentee. The club are still waiting to determine the extent of Evan Gumbs’ hernia injury.

Midfielder Matty McDonald has suffered a setback in his return to full fitness, meaning he will be out for a further 3-4 weeks.

Manager Mark Beesley has challenged his players to keep faith with their processes as they look to end a four-game winless run.

It was a much-improved display against Spennymoor in midweek, but Beesley has urged his players to sharpen up defensively in order to navigate the often-tricky waters of the National League North.

“We’ve been talking to the lads a lot about this. At times this season, it’s not going to be plain sailing,” he said after Tuesday’s draw.

“We’ve got to keep going and we’ve got to have that belief in what we’re doing, that we’re doing the right things.

“We’re trying to play the right way. At times we’ll get punished, a little bit like we did tonight, but I think everyone who was here tonight will have enjoyed it.

“That’s more like us. On the front foot, wanting to score goals.

“The big thing is keeping the back door shut, which we did last year. The quality of the opposition and the strikers especially are so much better in this league, and we’ve got to be switched on.”
