Preview: Hebburn Town vs Warrington Town

All eyes are on the FA Trophy this Saturday as Warrington Town travel to the Green Energy Sports Ground to face Hebburn Town.

The Yellows managed to rescue a point against Rylands in Tuesday night’s Warrington derby, in a game that ended 3-3 in front of over 1,500 spectators.

Focus now switches away from league matters and onto Saturday’s third qualifying round tie, with Mark Beesley hoping his side can stretch their unbeaten run to three matches, against a side they triumphed over at the exact same stage of the competition last season.

Previous meetings

On their previous trip to the north-east back in October 2021, the Yellows overcame their lower-league counterparts after a hard-fought 2-0 win.

On the day, second half goals from Jack Mackreth and Stefan Mols sealed Town’s passage to the next round of the competition.

Mark Beesley preview

Manager Mark Beesley will hope for a repeat of last season’s result against the Hornets, despite admitting his side have some injury concerns heading into the weekend.

With Hebburn currently second in the NPL East Division and unbeaten in all competitions since the start of September, Beesley admits Saturday’s opponents are not to be underestimated.

“It’s always tough up there,” he said. “We played them last year and they’ve recruited really well since then.

“We’re carrying injuries, and it’s something we’re going to have to assess. “I’m expecting a really tough game.”
