Preview: Warrington Town vs Curzon Ashton

Warrington Town begin their Emirates FA Cup journey on Saturday as they host Curzon Ashton in the second qualifying round at the UNIS Compliance Stadium.

The Yellows will be hoping that a change in competition can reinvigorate the squad following last weekend’s disappointing 3-0 defeat away to Banbury United in the National League North.

With lucrative rewards on offer and the prospect for the chance of another historic cup run, it might just be the boost that Mark Beesley’s side needs at this stage of the season.

Below, we’ve compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Arran Pettifer is ineligible to play in the FA Cup for the Yellows and so has been recalled from his loan spell.

Mitch Duggan (ill) and Dylan Mottley-Henry (knee) are doubts, but captain Josh Amis is in contention for a place on the bench.

Youngster Sam Gill, who has been playing for the Warrington Town Under 21s, has been registered with the first team.

Manager Mark Beesley believes that the FA Cup clash has come at the right time for his injury-riddled squad as they take a break from league action, but has demanded that they must show a reaction following last weekend’s defeat.

Standing in their way is Curzon Ashton who beat the Yellows 4-1 in the National League North recently and Beesley is more than aware of the danger that they pose.

This fixture has probably come at the right time for us. I think that we needed a break from the league after nine really tough games.

The FA Cup is hard to predict – we’re up against a team that beat us 4-1 at home recently so it’s a difficult draw for us.

“Of course, everybody wants a cup run because it can breathe new confidence into the squad and finances for the club – everything it brings is positive.

“At the same time, there is no added pressure for the cup because of the fact that it is so hard to predict.

“It doesn’t matter who we’re playing, we need a game to refocus, regroup and improve on last week’s performance.”
