Preview: Warrington Town vs Gainsborough Trinity

Warrington Town turn their focus back to Northern Premier League action on Tuesday night as they welcome Gainsborough Trinity to Cantilever Park.

The Yellows extended their unbeaten run to three matches last weekend following Saturday’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Hebburn Town in the FA Trophy.

A last-minute penalty from Sean Williams sealed victory at the Green Energy Sports Ground, and Mark Beesley will hope his side can maintain their positive run of form as they prepare to host a side with just one defeat in nine league matches this season.

The Yellows will be without Isaac Buckley-Ricketts (appendix) and Mikey Howard (knee) for tonight’s fixture, although on-loan Southport forward Connor Woods is in line to make his home debut.

Defender Tom Hannigan and midfielder Stefan Mols will also be assessed.

Previous Meetings

Warrington Town are yet to lose against Gainsborough in any of their previous six meetings, having drawn twice and won on four occasions.

When Trinity last visited Cantilever Park in September 2021, Matty Grivosti’s second half strike was the difference between the two teams as the Yellows came away with a 1-0 win.

However, the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in their most recent encounter, as a Sean Williams penalty midway through the second half cancelled out Neal Bishop’s fifth-minute opener.

Mark Beesley preview

Following Saturday’s win over Hebburn, Yellows boss Mark Beesley stressed the importance of captain Josh Amis, who netted his first goal of the season in the north-east.

With other attacking options currently sidelined, Beesley says he is pleased to see Amis work his way back to full fitness following a recent lay-off.

“Josh Amis is a big player for us,” he said. “History tells you how much he’s done for this club.

“We’ve got to be patient with him, but at the moment we can’t be because of what’s going on with the other forwards.

“He’s just got to get himself ready for Tuesday.”
