Preview: Warrington Town vs Rylands

Local bragging rights are up for grabs on Tuesday night as Warrington Town face local rivals Rylands in the Northern Premier League.

The two sides will face off in a competitive fixture for the first time since 1978.

The Yellows ended a run of three consecutive defeats with a 1-0 victory over Radcliffe on Saturday and will be keen to kick on, while Rylands will have their sights set on extending their unbeaten run in the league under caretaker boss Jody Banim and climb into the play-off places.

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley has urged his players to enjoy the occasion and be on top of their game against their cross-town rivals.

The Yellows come into the game three points adrift of Rylands, albeit with two games in hand.

Beesley admits he is well aware of the qualities offered by Tuesday’s visitors.

“It’s a big game for the town and it’s good that the town has these kinds of games,” he said. “I’m sure both teams will enjoy the occasion.

“Having said that, we have to treat it like any other game. They’re a very good team – I’m not going to come out and say otherwise.

“I’ve watched them – they have some really good attacking players, they’re defending well and they look like a good team under their new manager. They’ll be right up there at the end of the season.”

Talented Yellows forward Luke Duffy says the squad are excited to lock horns with their near neighbours in front of a sizeable Cantilever Park crowd.

Duffy, who has featured 12 times in all competitions this season, says the prospect of a passionate local derby is exciting for all involved.

“They’re the games you look forward to playing in,” he said.

“It’s good for the area to have both teams going head-to-head at such a good level. I’m expecting a good crowd and a great game.”
