Preview: Warrington Town vs Tamworth

Warrington Town face arguably their toughest challenge yet as they welcome National League North leaders Tamworth to Cantilever Park.

After the original clash at the start of December was postponed due to poor weather conditions, the Yellows now have the opportunity to test their mettle against the league’s best.

The Lambs have won their last five consecutive matches in the National League North and Mark Beesley’s side will hope to cause somewhat of an upset by building upon last weekend’s 1-1 draw away at South Shields.

Team news

Midfielder Matty McDonald continues to fight for a starting spot as he builds up his match fitness after returning from a lengthy injury.

Defender Evan Gumbs remains unavailable for the Tamworth fixture.

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley is under no pretence regarding the nature of tonight’s clash against league frontrunners Tamworth.

The Lambs boast the best defensive record in the National League North, and they have picked up 23 points on the road this season, more than any other team in the division.

Nevertheless, the Yellows will be buoyed by their recent form on home soil, winning their last four fixtures at Cantilever Park.

“We’ve got to take each game as it comes,” Beesley said.

“Tamworth are top of the league and they’re there for a reason. They’re strong, aggressive and really good at what they do and it’s effective.

“It’s going to be a really tough game, then we’ve got Alfreton who will probably finish in the top five and who got to the first round of the FA Cup, so it’s a tough run.”
