Report: Ashville 0-1 Warrington Town

Warrington Town booked their place in the third round of the Cheshire Senior Cup as Aaron Bennett’s second half goal was enough to see them past North West Counties League side Ashville.

Bennett guided a left-footed shot home shortly after the hour mark following good build-up play from Deacon Smalley, and his first goal in Yellows colours proved enough for victory at the Ray Parker Stadium.

The cup outing gave manager Mark Beesley the opportunity to keep some of his senior players in reserve, with one eye on Saturday’s home game against National League North leaders Tamworth.

Jay Harris played 45 minutes on his comeback from a groin injury, while a number of players from the club’s league-leading U21s and the Robbie Fowler Academy also featured.

One of those young players, Adam Brooks, very nearly doubled Town’s lead late in the day but saw his header pushed away by Ashville goalkeeper Dylan O’Brien.

The Yellows will now gear up for a busy December which includes five league outings – the next two of which will take place over consecutive Saturdays at the UNIS Compliance Stadium.

Ashville: O’Brien, Sunners, Courtnell (Hartley), Jones, Reynolds (Farrall), Haynes (White), Davies, Maldon, Parrington (Dulson), Greenop, Morgan. Unused subs: Quinn.

Warrington Town: Goudie, McVeigh, Sinnott, Murray, Sudworth, Harris (Smalley), Gill, Bennett (Brooks), Grivosti (Hussein), Blankendale, McCauley (Pile).
