Report: Bamber Bridge 0-2 Warrington Town

Warrington Town rounded off preparations for their debut season in the National League North with a 2-0 victory at Bamber Bridge.

In a repeat of May’s Northern Premier League play-off final, goals in either half from Sean Williams and Tom Hannigan ensured the Yellows recorded their fifth win in seven pre-season outings.

The deadlock was broken midway through the first half when Sean Williams curled a delightful free-kick into the top corner.

Further chances came and went, with Luke Duffy heading Williams’ cross over before forcing a good save from Brig goalkeeper James Pradic, while Connor Woods struck post and bar as he looked to add his name to the scoresheet.

The tempo dropped in the second half as both teams made changes, and it took until the final 15 minutes for Tom Hannigan to power home a header following Dec Walker’s corner to make sure of the victory.

Play-off final match-winner Isaac Buckley-Ricketts was denied by Pradic in the closing minutes, but it mattered little as Mark Beesley’s side ran out winners ahead of their National League North season-opener against Southport on Saturday 5 August.
