Report: Boston United 2-0 Warrington Town

A stunning strike from Keziah Martin sealed a 2-0 win for Boston United over Warrington Town in a first ever meeting between the two clubs.

Martin cracked a left-foot shot in to the top corner barely seconds after Mark Beesley had made a double substitution midway through the second half as the Yellows looked for a way back in to the game.

They already trailed to Kelsey Mooney’s first half goal and the Pilgrims were good value for the win in handing the Yellows their first away defeat of the season.

The Yellows had goalkeeper Tony Thompson to thank for keeping them on level terms in the opening quarter, his superb one-handed save denying Mooney’s header after the a loose long ball had stayed in play via the corner flag.

Boston moved the ball around nicely and their fluid midfield and front line made it difficult for the Yellows to maintain possession in the first half.

They were made to work hard for openings, Connor Woods curled a shot wide from 20 yards out before the best chance fell to Isaac Buckley-Ricketts midway through the first half. He was released by Aaron Bennett’s through ball after good hold up play by Dylan Mottley-Henry, and though Buckley-Ricketts was able to get it on to his right foot, he steered his shot wide of the post.

The deadlock was broken on 36 mintues when Zak Mills was allowed to travel a long way from the back and laid off for Keaton Ward to slide through for Mooney in the box and he slid a shot underneath the onrushing Thompson.

It was a deserved lead for the hosts and they nearly doubled it four minutes after the restart when Martin hung well to head back a deep Mooney ball and Ward’s controlled shot was fired just wide.

Thompson saved well to beat away a shot from Ward before Mooney was denied a second goal by an offside flag after he tapped home from a Ward ball across.

To try and get back in to the game, the Yellows introduced Andy White and Jordan Buckley off the bench, but before they could even get a touch of the ball, Boston had doubled their lead.

Martin found the top corner with a fine left-footed strike from 25 yards and left the visitors with a mountain to climb.

The introduction of White certainly added some much needed balance to the Yellows left side, and they started to create overlaps.

It was from one of those that fellow substitute Grivosti steered a side-footed shot goalwards that was well saved by Cameron Gregory, falling backwards one-handed on the floor.
