Report: FC United of Manchester 2-1 Warrington Town

Warrington Town were beaten 2-1 by FC United of Manchester in their latest pre-season friendly on Tuesday night.

Despite a bright opening which saw Pat Boyes tested in the FC United goal, the Yellows found themselves behind after 11 minutes when Elliott Morris stabbed an effort beyond the onrushing Tony Thompson.

Jordan Buckley was soon denied by another smart Boyes save, this time keeping out his goal-bound volley.

However, with 30 minutes on the clock, the leveller came as Bohan Dixon scrambled the ball home from close range after some last-ditch FC United defending inside their own box following a corner.

The second half was a far less end-to-end affair, although both teams still created chances.

Warrington shot-stopper Thompson reacted smartly to keep out Max Cane’s effort five minutes after the restart, before the tempo of the game dropped as both teams started to change personnel.

It looked to be heading for a draw, until Matt Van Wyk’s close-range volley with 88 minutes on the clock proved to be the difference.
