Report: Hyde United 1-0 Warrington Town

Warrington Town exited the FA Cup at the second qualifying round stage after going down 1-0 to in-form Hyde United.

The Yellows arrived at Ewen Fields having netted in each of their opening nine games in league and cup this season but failed to trouble the scoresheet as the Tigers secured their fourth victory in a row.

The cup fixture also saw central defender Teddy Mfuni, a recent arrival at the club, make his debut as a second half substitute.

Liam Tongue scored the only goal of the game shortly after half-time, stabbing home from close range after a set-piece was only half-cleared by the visitors.

The Yellows had chances before and after the goal, with Andy White forcing fine saves from home goalkeeper Gio Bellagambi in either half.

In a game bereft of many clear-cut openings, a late scramble following a corner couldn’t be turned home as the hosts held on to book their place in the third qualifying round for the first time in five years.

The Yellows are next in action at home to FC United of Manchester on Saturday 24 September.

Hyde United: Bellagambi, Ditchfield, Neavin, Spooner, Fagbola, Roscoe, Dawson (Djankpata), Tongue, Brown (H.Pratt), Redshaw (Fleming), T.Pratt. Unused subs: Chew, Carne, Hussain.

Warrington Town: Thompson, Seary, White, Hannigan (Mfuni), Gumbs, Harris (Amis), Mols, McDonald (Duffy), Buckley-Ricketts, Dixon, Howard. Unsured subs: Duggan.
