Report: Warrington Town 0-0 Guiseley

Two of the Northern Premier League’s form teams battled out a goalless draw as Warrington Town and Guiseley shared the points at Cantilever Park.

Missing strikers Josh Amis and Jordan Buckley, the Yellows were forced to start Isaac Buckley-Ricketts through the middle and Luke Duffy, Bohan Dixon and Tom Hannigan all started despite carrying knocks.

It was a drab affair of few chances as the Yellows stretched their unbeaten run to 13, while it was Guiseley’s first draw under new manager Paul Phillips, having won seven and lost three of their previous 10.

The nature of the game might have been different had Buckley-Ricketts’ fifth minute goal not been correctly ruled out for offside, he was released by Dec Walker’s pass and the right-back was as threatening as anyone for the Yellows.

Only a straight forward shot straight at Cam Mason from Luke Duffy troubled either goalkeeper in the first half, with the main talking point being a flare up involving Kallan Murphy – who the Yellows thought should have been shown a second yellow card for making contact with Hannigan in the air shortly before half time.

Guiseley had their best spell of the match in the opening 10 minutes of the second half and within that had the best chance. Tony Thompson, who was embroiled in an infamous incident involving a urine filled water bottle on Guiseley’s last visit to this ground, sprung to his right to save one-handed from Courtney Meppen-Walters’ header.

George Smith’s long free-kick inadvertently hit the top of the crossbar shortly after the hour, but after then, the hosts re-gained control of the game.

They were largely toothless though, the best chance coming when Walker cut inside on to his left and curled a shot agonisingly wide of the far post.

Hannigan headed Williams’ short corner across goal to be cleared and Matty McDonald twice shot straight at Mason, once from a Dixon pull back and then after a smart turn in the box.

Even six minutes added on time couldn’t bring a goal, but it was a fourth successive clean sheet for the Yellows, who travel to Marske United next weekend.
