Report: Warrington Town Women 8-2 Mossley Hill

A dominating performance helped Warrington Town Women to an 8-2 victory over Mossley Hill on Sunday.

It was a brilliant result and helped provide some redemption following last week’s 10-0 loss at Wythenshawe.

The first goal came just four minutes in as midfielder Chloe Green gave the Yellows an early lead.
Seven minutes later, their advantage was extended as Carla Burton’s shot beat Mossley Hill goalkeeper Olivia Cull.

The game then relaxed a bit in terms of scoring, but not in terms of chances as the Yellows had plenty more opportunities to add a third.

At the other end, Mossley Hill nearly reduced the lead but no goals came until the 28th minute, when Yellows top scorer Sam Hassall grabbed two goals before the end of the first half to give Town a stable lead going into the break.

In the second period, goals throughout the half came from Meg Osborne (2), plus Chloe Green netted her second of the game.

There was also an own-goal towards the end of the contest after confusion between a Mossley Hill defender and the goalkeeper led to the former heading the ball over the shot-stopper and into the net.

Mossley Hill goals came in the second half one after the other, but the gap was too big.

All in all, it was an unmatched performance from the Yellows to secure all three points at Tetley Walkers. They now sit in 8th place in the league, with six points from as many games. Mossley Hill sit a point above.

Town will travel to Wigan next week to take on fifth-placed Hindley where they will look to steal some points and continue to climb the division.
