Sean Williams: We want to end on a high

Warrington Town midfielder Sean Williams says the squad are determined to end their debut season in the National League North on a high as they prepare to welcome Hereford to Cantilever Park for their final home game of the season.

The Yellows have fallen to four successive defeats on home soil but start the weekend knowing victory would see them climb above the Bulls and retain a top-half position with one game to play.

With an attendance increase of 51% on last season, Williams is keen to repay the fans for their support of the club throughout the year.

“The fans have been great every single week – they’ve backed us home and away,” he said.

“It’s absolutely tremendous and myself, the staff and the lads can’t thank them enough. Everywhere we go, we hear them and see them, and it’s been brilliant to witness.

“It’ll be nice to finish off our last home game with a win to send the fans into the summer with something to cheer about, so fingers crossed we can do it.

“Equally, we’ve also got another season to look forward to in the National League North. We’ve had a good first season in the division and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of our fans.

“Home and away, in the rain and snow, wherever we’ve been they’ve always been there in their numbers, in good spirits and voice, and hopefully we can continue it together next season.”

Williams made his debut for the club in November 2016 and recently hit a major personal milestone, surpassing 200 appearances the Yellows in their game against Darlington at the start of the month.

Having played an integral role within the Town midfield for a number of seasons, Williams hopes to continue testing himself in the National League North, having left Step 2 football to re-join the Yellows from Altrincham back in October 2021.

“It’s a nice achievement for myself and my family,” he admitted.

“To be honest, I wasn’t really aware of it until about the 190-ish mark, and then one of the lads mentioned that I was about to hit 200!

“It’s brilliant to be able to play so many games. I’ve played in every league fixture this season and it’s always a joy, whether it’s your first or 200th appearance, to put on that Warrington shirt.

“The club has got amazing supporters and people behind the scenes that fans might not get to see as much, so it will always be a joy to play for Warrington Town.

“I’m enjoying life in the National League North – it’s just another challenge, but at the end of the day, we come to play football and we come to win those games of football.

“We’re here to compete in this league and not to just make the numbers up. It’s been a nice first season in the division, and hopefully we can build on this and push on even further next season.”
