Yellows bring in Stockport County wide man

Mark Beesley has bolstered his Warrington Town squad with the loan signing of wide man Josh Popoola from Stockport County.

Popoola, 19, played against the Yellows for Spennymoor Town earlier this season and has also had a period on loan with fellow National League North side Chorley.

After coming through the youth ranks at Watford, Popoola turned professional with Bournemouth ahead of the 2022/23 season before moving on to Stockport this summer.

Yellows manager Beesley said: “We’ve had our eye on him for a while. We nearly got him a bit ago – we went to watch him play for Stockport against Salford and he was excellent, probably the best player on the pitch.

“He’s gone to Chorley and been excellent, but he’s not got as many minutes as he would have liked so we’d like to thank Stockport for allowing it to happen. We’re really pleased to have got it over the line.

“He’s versatile and that’s what we need. We’ve got versatile forwards – there’s only really Josh Amis that you’d pigeon-hole as a centre-forward but the rest can play in different positions.

We have to have lads like that within a small squad and he fits the bill for that. With obviously losing Jordan, it gives us more attacking options.”

Popoola goes straight in to contention for this weekend’s home game against Tamworth, which is subject to a 10am pitch inspection due to the freezing weather conditions.

The initial loan deal for the winger or wing-back is for a period of 28 days.
