Yellows defender makes Football League move

Warrington Town can confirm that defender Teddy Mfuni has joined Football League One club Oxford United.

Mfuni, 18, joined the club in the summer and becomes the second Yellows player in the past six months to earn a full-time professional deal in the Football League, following Matty Grivosti’s move to Bolton Wanderers.

He made a total of four appearances but was part of the majority of this season’s matchday squads and has trained well, but the excellent form of Evan Gumbs and Tom Hannigan has limited his first team chances.

Manager Mark Beesley said: “We took Teddy in the summer and we’ve been able to develop him and help him grow as a player.

“He’s learned a lot from the lads in training and being around the other players and staff, and I know Teddy wants to thank everyone at the club for their help.

“He’s the second player we’ve had in six months now move on to League One, so it shows the sort of environment that we’ve got here and that it can help young lads to develop and fulfil their dreams of becoming full-time professional footballers.

“We’re proud of that and hopefully it encourages others that this is the right club for them.”

The club has also received positive feedback from EFL Championship side Preston North End, following the end of Josh Seary’s loan spell.

Seary made 26 appearances for the Yellows before his loan expired after the 1-1 draw against Nantwich Town on January 2.

He has returned to Deepdale to continue his development and push for a first team place.

Beesley added: “We brought Josh in and Preston have been made up with the progress he’s made. He obviously fit in well with us and became a regular.

“They’re now hoping he can push towards a first team spot, and again it just shows the environment we’ve got here can help get the best out of players and help them in their development.”
