Yellows progress in FA Trophy

Midfielder Stefan Mols scored a debut goal to help Warrington Town through to the next round of the FA Trophy.

The recent signing from Blackburn Rovers came off the bench to double the Yellows’ lead as they won 2-0 away at Hebburn Town.

Jack Mackreth had earlier opened the scoring in the north east, against the team that knocked Warrington Rylands out of the competition in the previous round.

An under-strength Yellows will have been relieved to pass a tricky assignment and reach the first round proper of this season’s FA Trophy.

With no recognised left-back, midfielder Ben Hough donned the number three jersey, and Mols was the only fully-fit substitute they took on the long journey.

There was an early scare too for striker Josh Amis, who looked like being forced off injured midway through the first half having narrowly headed over the crossbar from a Sean Williams cross.

He stayed on, and forced the best chance before half-time, forcing a save low to Mark Foden’s right.

The two would clash later on, with Foden coming off worse following a collision and had to be substituted.

The deadlock was broken on 57 minutes, Dom Reid with a strong run and pass to set up Mackreth for his first goal of the season.

The hosts took the game to the Yellows, with Dan Atherton in typically fine form in goal, but the visitors got breathing space when on 75 minutes.

Mols, who had replaced Bohan Dixon 10 minutes previous, swept home the rebound after the ’keeper had parried away Mackreth’s shot from a Reid cross.

The draw for the next round is on Monday.
