Yellows round off pre-season with win at Bootle

Warrington Town completed their pre-season preparations with a 3-1 win at Bootle.

Josh Amis came off the bench to score twice as the Yellows tasted victory in their final fixture before next Saturday’s 2022/23 league opener against Morpeth Town.

After a goalless first half, the visitors hit the front just before the hour mark.

Isaac Buckley-Ricketts charged down Bucks goalkeeper Sam Ashton’s attempted clearance, and Amis reacted quickest to the rebound to slide the ball into an empty net from the edge of the penalty area.

The advantage was doubled little over five minutes later, with Evan Gumbs diverting Sean Williams’ inviting free-kick into the bottom corner.

Amis soon had his second of the game to make it 3-0. After good work down the right from Stefan Mols, the powerful forward superbly produced a deft lob over the Bucks keeper with a first-time effort.

The home side pulled one back when Ben Hodkinson’s low strike beat Yellows keeper Tony Thompson, but it mattered little as Mark Beesley’s side extended their unbeaten run to six matches heading into the new campaign.
