Beesley adds loan signing ahead of FA Trophy clash

Southport forward Connor Woods has joined Warrington Town on a one-month loan.

Woods, 24, has made 10 appearances in the National League North this season and goes straight into contention for Saturday’s FA Trophy tie away at Hebburn Town.

He started out at St Helens Town and had a spell with Skelmersdale United before joining Southport in July 2019.

Woods signed a new deal with Southport, running until May 2024, back in January.

Manager Mark Beesley said: “Connor’s a great signing for us. He’s someone we’ve been trying to get over the last few weeks.

“He’s someone who can play in a variety of positions across the front and someone who will give us a big boost. He’s played a lot of games in the league above, he’s someone who is motivated to come and do well.

“We’ve got him for a month so it’s a win-win situation for everybody. It gives us some breathing space, it’ll add competition for places that we need, and give some of the other lads chance to get some rest. It’s a big plus to get him on board.”

After tomorrow’s trip to the north-east, the Yellows are back in league action at home on Tuesday when Gainsborough Trinity visit Cantilever Park.
