Luke Duffy: Home support more crucial than ever

Luke Duffy is keen to see Warrington Town bounce back to winning ways on home soil as they prepare to play twice in four days at Cantilever Park.

The Yellows, currently seventh in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division, host bottom-of-the-league Grantham Town this Saturday, before attention turns to a Cheshire derby against Nantwich Town on Tuesday 8 February.

Town will be hoping to end their run of three games without a victory and potentially climb back into the play-off places ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Dabbers.

Duffy, who has featured in every game since the permanent managerial appointment of Mark Beesley, insists the squad has what it takes to regroup quickly following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at play-off rivals Whitby Town, ahead of what could prove to be a pivotal run of league fixtures.

“The lads were disappointed about it [the Whitby result],” he said. “We go everywhere wanting three points, but that point could be the difference at the end of the season.

“We treat every game the same, no matter the team or position. The level is always high in this league, so we have to be on it.”

On the importance of the fans ahead of Town’s upcoming home double-header, Duffy added: “The fans have been class this season, and the gate is only getting bigger.

“Every game we play, it gives us the edge to kick on when things are tough.”

Signed from Lower Breck in September 2020, Duffy has become a fans favourite due to his direct running and excellent footwork.

He has netted five goals in 35 appearances in all competitions, but insists improvements to his own performance are needed if he is going to play a big part in the Yellows’ promotion push.

“I want to do everything I can to help us,” he said. “I think I’ve played well in recent weeks, but I need to score more goals.

“There’s a boss atmosphere in the changing room. We have a really good set of lads with a lot of ability.

“We all get along, and we’re confident we can win every game we play in.”
