Preview: Warrington Town vs Tamworth

A tough tests looms large for Warrington Town as National League North leaders Tamworth prepare to visit the UNIS Compliance Stadium.

Fresh from progressing in the Cheshire Senior Cup in midweek, several senior figures will return to the fold as Mark Beesley’s side look to build on last Saturday’s positive display away at ex-Football League side Scunthorpe United.

PLEASE NOTE: With freezing temperatures already experienced this week and more to come overnight, the game will be subject to a 10am pitch inspection.

The Yellows are expected to welcome back a number of first team players who were rested in midweek.

It is hoped that Andre Wisdom will be in contention to feature following a recent hamstring injury, while midfielder Jay Harris could be in-line for further minutes after making his comeback from a long-term groin complaint on Tuesday night.

However, they will be without Mitch Duggan as the versatile defender serves a one-game suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season at Glanford Park last time out.

Warrington Town midfielder Jay Harris says the squad can take real heart from their trip to Scunthorpe as they turn their attentions back to the rigours of the National League North this weekend.

Reflecting on that match ahead of Tamworth’s trip to the UNIS Compliance Stadium, he said: “Scunthorpe were favourites because they were in the Championship 10 years ago, but people underestimate the squad we’ve got and the players we have.

“I don’t see why people are underestimating us, because when we perform, we perform very well. I think last Saturday was the wrong result – even a draw would’ve been harsh.

“We were on top, but that’s football. It’s a results game, but we’ve got to take confidence and carry it forward.

“These are the games [against high-flying teams] where you can’t not get up for it. You play for the big crowd, especially while we’re at home against the league leaders.”
